TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Transportation Office will temporarily halt its odd-even traffic policy on New Year's Day or the 1st of January 2024, considering it will be a national holiday.
"Concerning the New Year 2024 that falls on Monday, Jan. 1, 2024, the odd-even traffic policy in Jakarta will be halted," the office's official Instagram @dishubdkijakarta wrote on Wednesday.
The decision refers to the joint Decision Letter of the Ministry of Religious Affairs Decision Letter and the Ministry of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform.
"The Governor Regulation No. 88 of 2019 on Traffic Restriction through the Odd-Even System stipulated on Article 3 (3) that the policy will be temporarily halted on Saturday, Sunday, and national holidays," it wrote.
The Jakarta Transportation Office also urged residents to put safety first while driving and abide by the traffic signs.
Jakarta will also hold a car-free night during New Year's Eve celebration. The car free night will start from 6 p.m. WIB (Western Indonesian Time) on Sunday, Dec. 31, 2023.
The car free night will be implemented across Jl. Sudirman-Thamrin, where no vehicles are allowed to pass by the road except for Transjakarta.
