TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - West Sumatra’s Minangkabau International Airport resumed normal operation on Saturday, December 23, starting at 05:54. The airport was previously closed for operation due to Mount Marapi eruption.
Director General of Air Transport at the Transportation Ministry, M. Kristi Endah Murni, instructed the Regional VI Airport Authority of Padang to continue intensive coordination with the stakeholders regarding the development of Mount Marapi.
"Situation monitoring and intensive coordination are highly important in mitigating the force majeure condition so that we can take the necessary steps for flight safety, security, and comfort," said Kristi in her official statement on Saturday, December 23.
Fifteen flights were affected by the volcano eruption, she went on; 12 were domestic flights and three were international flights.
"Due to this force majeure condition, passengers have been offered the option to refund, reschedule, or re-route under applicable regulations," said Kristi.
She called on the airlines to compensate the passengers who had purchased the tickets to help those who were affected by the closure of Minangkabau International Airport. The compensations include a full refund, reschedule, or re-route to the nearest airport if the seats are available.
“Yesterday's flights have been handled and flight operations have returned to normal. So, people can resume their Christmas and New Year trips safely, securely, and effectively," said Kristi.
