TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi will visit Japan on Dec 16 to 18, 2023. Jokowi is scheduled to attend the ASEAN-Japan Commemorative Summit on Dec. 17, 2023, as a co-chair along with Japanese PM Fumio Kisida.
The summit is held to commemorate ASEAN and Japan's 50 years of friendship and cooperation. After, Jokowi and Kishida will issue a joint statement for the press.
In addition to leading the summit, Jokowi will also attend the Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC) on Dec. 18. AZEC was initiated by Japan and Indonesia on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Bali back in November 2022.
According to a statement by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Indonesia was the first priority target of US$500 million in financing to implement energy transition programs and expand public-private decarbonization initiatives.
Prior to both summits, Jokowi will attend a bilateral meeting with Kishida on Dec. 16, 2023, according to Lalu Muhammad Iqbal, Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson on Tuesday, Dec. 12.
The development of MRT Jakarta in the east and west routes is among the discussions, as well as support for energy transition and green infrastructure development, increasing the transfer of skilled Indonesian manpower, and Japan's support for IKN.
ASEAN and Kishida agreed in September to form a strategic and comprehensive partnership during the ASEAN-Japan Summit. Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi stated after the meeting that Jokowi and the Japanese PM agreed to adopt a Joint Statement on the Establishment of the ASEAN-Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
