TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's National Police (Polri) Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo and Defense Forces (TNI) Commander General Agus Subiyanto attended a community service during their official visit to Papua Province on Friday, December 8, 2023.

During the event, jointly organized by Polri and TNI, one thousand residents received staple food packages and free medical check-up, according to National Police spokesperson Insp. Gen. Sandi Nugroho.

"This community service is part of the TNI-Polri's efforts to remain united with local people and to encourage them to participate actively in creating Indonesia's peaceful elections," he stated.

During their visit to Papua, General Subiyanto and General Prabowo also briefed a joint team of military and police personnel stationed in Papua region and also attended a declaration of peaceful elections, he remarked.

Meanwhile, Papua Police Chief Inspector General Mathius Fakhiri recently urged local people to focus on determining their political choices during the election campaign period.

He appealed to all community members to not pay heed to provocative actions and calls for disturbing public law and order by anyone or any group.

The Papua Police has also urged legislative candidates and political parties to comply with rules regarding the issuance of Notification Receipt Letters (STTPs) before campaigning for the 2024 elections.

All legislative candidates and contesting political parties have been urged to obtain such a letter before conducting their campaigns, Papua Police spokesperson, Senior Commissioner Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo, stated.

Indonesia's General Elections Commission (KPU) has set the presidential campaign period from Nov 28, 2023, to Feb 10, 2024, while the presidential and parliamentary elections will be held on Feb 14, 2024.

The presidential election will be contested by three pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidates: Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar, Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka, and Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD.

Baswedan and Iskandar have been nominated with the support of the NasDem Party, National Awakening Party (PKB), Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), and Ummat Party.

Subianto and Raka have the backing of the Gerindra Party and a coalition of parties, including Golkar, National Mandate Party (PAN), Democratic Party, and Gelora Party.

Pranowo and Mahfud have the support of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), United Development Party, Perindo Party, and Hanura Party.

The KPU said that it has also determined the final voter list, the final list of lawmaker candidates for the House of Representatives (DPR), and the final list of candidates for the Senate or Regional Representatives Council (DPD RI) members.

The final voter list for the 2024 elections comprises 204,807,222 voters, the final list of lawmaker candidates for DPR has 9,917 candidates, and the final list of candidates for DPD members has 668 candidates.

Registered voters will cast their votes for the presidential and vice presidential candidates, legislators (DPR/DPRD), and senators at polling booths on February 14, 2024.

For the elections, the KPU has determined 84 electoral districts for 580 seats at DPR, 301 electoral districts for 2,372 seats at provincial legislative bodies (Provincial DPRD), and 2,325 electoral districts for 17,510 seats at district/city legislative bodies (Regency/City level DPRD).
