Jokowi Taps Marthinus Hukom to Lead BNN

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Joko Widodo or Jokowi appointed Inspector General Marthinus Hukom as the chief of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN). This was stipulated in Presidential Decree No. 182/TPA of 2023. The inauguration took place on Friday, Dec. 8, at the State Palace, Jakarta.

Marthinus officially takes over the leadership of BNN from Petrus Golose who has retired.

“In carrying out my duties, I shall uphold office ethics and work as hard as I can with full responsibility,” Marthinus said following the oath read by Jokowi.

He was promoted to a two-star officer and was tapped into the National Police’s Chief of the anti-terror squad Densus 88 in April 2023, replacing Inspector General Muhamad Syafii who held the position since February 3, 2017.

Born on January 30, 1969, in Maluku, Marthinus mastered the field of research. He began his career as an investigator at Densus 88. He served twice as Densus 88  Deputy Chief in 2015 and 2018. 

In 2017, he was trusted to be the Deputy Director of Law Enforcement at the National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT).

During his service, Marthinus Hukom was known for his bold character in dealing with terrorists without considering their religious backgrounds as he committed during the meeting with the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission III on March 21, 2022.
