TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno admitted that airplane ticket fares tend to rise during the Christmas and New Year holidays. Thus, he recommended those planning to travel during the upcoming year-end holidays reserve their tickets before the holiday period.
"Indeed, before December 15, the fares are more affordable. But, since there is an increase in visitors, the prices will also rise. Therefore, I urge people to plan their travel earlier," he said after the Korea-Indonesia Economic Cooperation Forum in Commemoration of the 50Th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations event in Jakarta on Thursday, Nov. 30, 2023.
Sandiaga claimed that his ministry has discussed this issue. According to him, the government will take measures to support public mobilization during the year-end holidays, including conducting the #DiIndonesiaAja Travel Fair 2023 on Dec. 1-3, 2023.
"The travel fair will be launched [on Dec.1]. We hope that people will enjoy the promos offered," he said.
Concerning Christmas and New Year holiday preparation, Sandiaga mentioned that the ministry has ensured tourist destinations in Indonesia have ready themselves to prepare for a hike in tourist surge. In addition, he claimed the ministry was set to face the holiday period amid the rainy season.
"We have sent circular letters to these tourist destinations to prepare themselves not only for a hike in [tourists] volume but also for the rainy season. We don't want them unprepared and something undesirable to happen," the minister concluded.
