1. Hamas Seeks to Extend Truce with Israel, More Hostages to Release
Hamas is seeking to extend the ongoing four-day truce with Israel. In a statement, the Palestinian resistant group said that it was hoping to extend the temporary ceasefire set to end on Monday evening to release more hostages.
The Qatar-negotiated deal between Israel and Hamas stipulates that 50 women and children taken hostage by Hamas during its October 7 attack must be freed over the course of a four-day ceasefire in exchange for 150 Palestinian women and children jailed by Israel.
The deal also allows for both sides to agree to extend the truce by an additional day for every 10 hostages released. In return, Israel will release more Palestinians it held in prison.
2. The Massacre in Palestine is Illogical and Unconscionable, Jokowi Says
President Joko Widodo or Jokowi stated that the massacre in broad daylight of civilians' lives including women in children in Palestine did not make sense. The president once again called for Palestine's liberation from Israel's occupation.
Jokowi conveyed this message in his opening remarks for the R20 International Summit of Religious Authorities (ISORA) organized by Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Council (PBNU) on Monday, Nov. 27, 2023, in Menteng, Central Jakarta. The conference focused its discussion on the role of religion in facing the ongoing violence in the Middle East.
3. KPU to Hold Declaration of Peaceful General Elections This Afternoon
The General Elections Commission or KPU will hold a Declaration of Peaceful General Elections this afternoon. "That's true, [the declaration] will be held at two in the afternoon," Idham Holik, the commissioner of KPU said via text.
The declaration will be attended by the three pairs of running presidential candidates; Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar, Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka, and Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD.
The head of the technical division of KPU mentioned that there will only be limited invitees during this declaration, a divergent from previous general elections fare such as the candidate registrations.
