TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A number of people gathered in front of the British Embassy in Jakarta to protest Coldplay's arrival in Indonesia. These people claimed Coldplay is a symbol of LGBTQ+ propaganda.
"We are not rejecting Coldplay as a musician, but an indiscernible part of the international [LGBTQ+] propaganda," said Muhyiddin Junaidi, the field coordinator.
Muhyiddin stated that his side disagrees with Coldplay's arrival in Indonesia for their upcoming concert on Wednesday, November 15, 2023. These protestors suspected that this musical event would have sublime LGBTQ+ messages.
"We accept differences, just not ones that violate the constitutions," he remarked.
The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) figure also demanded their messages heard by the British Embassy officials. "We're here to tell you that Indonesians reject the Coldplay concert in Jakarta!" he said.
Tempo's observation on the scene found that the protest went by pretty quickly, starting from 02:10 p.m. local time in front of the British Embassy and began dispersing at 02:35 p.m. local time. The protestors were planning to resume their convoy to Arjuna Statue and the Ministry of Political, Legal, and Human Rights Affairs.
