TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Acting Governor Heru Budi Hartono stated that he has discussed the provincial minimum wage (UMP) for 2024 with the Jakarta Manpower, Transmigration, and Energy Office.

Responding to the workers' demand for a 15 percent UMP rise, Heru stated that the decision will be discussed between the provincial government of Jakarta, companies, and the National Wages Council.

"We will discuss the matter with the National Wages Council and entrepreneurs," he said today, October 26.

The President of the Indonesian Workers' Union Confederation (KSPI) Said Iqbal mentioned that Jakarta's UMP should have risen by Rp700,000 each month. This number will signify a 15 percent rise in the current minimum wage of Rp4.9 million.

The proposal for a rise in UMP refers to the minimum wage of middle-income countries, with US$4,500 yearly. When the number is multiplied by Rp15,000 and divided by 12 months, Said added, the minimum wage for the workers should be Rp5.6 million each month.

Said also highlighted the fact that Civil Servants, the National Military Forces, and the National Police have their wages increased by 8 percent with an increase in pension funds by 12 percent.

According to Said, workers agree with that number. However, workers disagree if their wage increase is lower than civil servants for their wage is paid by workers' tax money.
