TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Prabowo Subianto is the only presidential candidate without a name beside him as the vice presidential candidate to contest in the 2024 general elections.
According to Tempo, the Gerindra Party SG Ahmad Muzani explained that the decision to appoint a vice presidential candidate will be discussed among the chairs of political parties included in the Advancing Indonesia Coalition, or Koalisi Indonesia Maju (KIM). At the moment, the decision could not be made since some of the leaders of KIM are not physically in Jakarta.
"The Council of Chairs will meet after all of the chairs are in Jakarta," Muzani said when met at Prabowo's residence in Jakarta yesterday.
Muzani refrained from explaining if the meeting would wait for the Chair of PAN, Zulkifli Hasan, or Zulhas, who is currently accompanying Jokowi on his visit to China and Saudi Arabia. Zulhas is scheduled to land in Jakarta this Friday, October 20.
The meeting will be led directly by Prabowo Subianto.
Allusion to the candidate
While never actually stating who is the candidate to become Prabowo's vice president, Muzani alluded to it through two pantuns, or the traditional form of poetry with ABAB rhythm.
"Indonesia the prosperous, millions are the people. For Indonesia the glorious, Prabowo and the youth is the answer," Muzani said on Wednesday. " Buying bananas on a bike, stopping by at Balapan Station. We'll soon announce Prabowo's VP candidate, an experienced one for the nation."
With the allusion to Balapan Station, Muzani stayed silent when asked if it meant Jokowi's son, Gibran Rakabuming Raka and the Mayor of Solo would be the one.
Recently, Erick Thohir, the SOEs Minister is rumored to have processed the police statement required to register as a vice presidential candidate. Additionally, East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa was also named as Prabowo's candidate before.
Muzani informed that KIM will announce the name hours before registering with the General Elections Commission. However, he also could not confirm when the registration will be processed.
"We have targeted to register before it's closed," he said.
KPU announced earlier that the registration will be closed on Wednesday, October 25. The other two contestants in the general elections, Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar and Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD are scheduled to register today.
