TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Tax Directorate General of the Finance Ministry has commented on the potential tax on online motorcycle taxis or online ojek and online shops proposed by the Jakarta government.
Director of Counseling, Services, and Public Relations, Dwi Astuti, said it is necessary to first review which elements of the online transportation service would be subject to a tax.
“This is to avoid double taxation by the central government and the regional government,” Dwi told Tempo on Tuesday, Oct. 17.
Dwi claimed that the Finance Ministry has not yet received further information regarding the Jakarta government’s plan to impose taxes on online ojek and online shops in the capital.
Earlier, Jakarta Regional Secretary Joko Agus Setyono said there are many regional tax potentials left untouched by the Regional Revenue Agency, such as online shops and online transportation services.
“We need to think about taxes on Go-jek, Go-food, and so on, for example,” Joko said on Wednesday, Oct. 11. “We also need to make a tax policy for online shops.”
Joko also said the regional government cannot implement this tax policy alone. “It has to involve the central government,” he said.
