TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Muslim Fashion Week (JMFW) 2024 kicked off on Thursday, Oct. 12, and is set to run from Oct. 19 to 21 at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition or ICE BSD, Tangerang. Didi Sumedi, director of export development at the Ministry of Trade, said this year’s JMFW focuses on strengthening the national modest fashion ecosystem.
The JMFW will be held in conjunction with Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI) from October 18 to 22. The event will feature a series of fashion shows, trade exhibitions, and business matching.
According to Didi, the government believes that Indonesia can dominate the distribution of the global modest fashion market. “This is supported by the growing global population of Muslims, which is dominated by the millennial generation,” he said in a press statement on Thursday.
He observed that millennials have influenced the modest fashion trend. In addition, Indonesia is privileged to have rich cultural diversity, local wisdom, and high-quality human resources.
The Trade Ministry collaborated with the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), the Association of Indonesian Retail and Tenant (Hippindo), and the Indonesian Retailers Association (Aprindo) to promote business transactions during the show.
“This aims to attract buyers, including domestic retailers and distributors, optimize the role of trade representatives to attend JMFW, and encourage business collaboration between international buyers and Indonesian companies,” Didi explained.
He hoped that collaboration and synergy among ministries, institutions, sponsors, and associations in the fashion sector could make the fashion show event a success.
“JMFW is an icon of collaboration between the government and stakeholders such as business people, academics, associations, and the media. I am happy and proud of the cross-sectoral cooperation from upstream to downstream,” Didi concluded.
