TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The head of PSSI Erick Thohir invited a number of FIFA delegates to inspect the preparation of the U-17 World Cup at one of the game venues, Si Jalak Harupat Stadium in Bandung. The delegates were FIFA Team Project Venue Management Christian Schmölzer and FIFA Venue Manager Sunny Kohli. They embarked this morning on a Whoosh high-speed train from Halim Station in East Jakarta.
Erick mentioned that Whoosh will have an important role in the U-17 World Cup. "FIFA wanted to ensure that Whoosh is able to support mobilities of the teams, goods, and the organizers from Jakarta to Bandung. Jakarta and Bandung accommodate two groups and a number of big teams," Erick stated.
According to Erick, FIFA fully supports the utilization of Whoosh during the World Cup since it will be beneficial to the players' recovery post-games. "U-17 [World Cup] is important for Indonesia will be a world stage. [FIFA delegations] were shocked to board Whoosh. They were taken aback that Indonesia has [Whoosh] and the first in Southeast Asia," he remarked.
The government will also try to increase the operational frequency of Whoosh during the World Cup. "During the tournament on November 10 to 24, the mobility between Jakarta and Bandung will be high so we will try to increase Whoosh's operational hours. Including in the morning, afternoon, 02:00 p.m. WIB, and 10:30 p.m. WIB," Erick said.
The head of PSSI also mentioned that the players of the U-17 World Cup will be placed in a special train car separate from other passengers of Whoosh to ensure their safety and comfort.
