4 Foods You Should Not Mix With Tea

27 September 2023 12:41 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaTea is one of the most popular aromatic beverages in the world. It comes in several varieties, such as green tea, black tea, chamomile, and hibiscus, each with its own benefits.

As quoted from Healthline, although tea can reduce the risk of chronic disorders such as cancer, obesity, diabetes, and heart disease, consuming too much tea can also cause negative side effects.

The side effects include anxiety, sleep deprivation, and headaches due to its caffeine and tannin content. In addition, as summarized from Times of India, there are foods that should not be combined with tea, as follows:

1. Iron-rich vegetables

Tannin and oxalate compounds in tea interfere with iron absorption in the body. As a precaution, it is better to have tea between meals rather than during meals. Some iron-rich vegetables include nuts, green leafy vegetables, whole grains, lentils, and cereals.

2. Lemon

Lemon tea is widely used as a morning weight-loss drink. In fact, combining tea leaves with lemon juice can make it acidic and can cause bloating. Lemon tea can also induce acid reflux and heartburn if consumed on an empty stomach.

3. Turmeric

Consuming turmeric-containing foods and tea should also be avoided because they can trigger stomach problems, such as gas, acidity, or constipation.

4. Cold foods

Eating foods of different temperatures can disrupt the digestive process. This may cause nausea. It is recommended to avoid anything cold for at least 30 minutes after drinking hot tea.
