Finance Minister Gauges Domestic Demand to Hike Up Ahead of 2024 General Elections

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati estimated that the domestic demand will continue to rise in anticipation of the 2024 general elections. "I'm seeing that political parties and politicians have started to disburse money for campaign," the minister said during the IOG Convention observed virtually on Wednesday, September 20, 2023.
According to Sri Mulyani, the consumption from political parties and politicians will be good for the economy. She is optimistic that Indonesia is capable of maintaining its economic state.
"Democracy and the elections are not the source of uncertainty," she said.
Rather than uncertainty, Sri Mulyani stated that the 2024 general elections are a democratic system safeguarded with peace, stability, and the success of the governmental transition.
During the convention, Minister Sri Mulyani also mentioned that Indonesia is a country with a huge economy. In addition, the government will cushion the domestic demand.
However, she warned, that Indonesia ought to remain vigilant. Because, export growth seems to slow down, especially compared to the level of export in 2022.
