TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The head of the Post-IKN Transfer Special Committee of DPRD Jakarta, Pantas Nainggolan, stressed that the national projects in Jakarta ought to proceed despite the shift of State Capital status to Nusantara in East Kalimantan come next year.
"[The national project] cannot be stopped. The national programs have the purpose to give benefits to Jakarta residents and its environment so it's necessary for them to continue," he said during a meeting in Jakarta yesterday, September 19, 2023.
One of the national programs referred to was the public transportation development such as MRT and LRT. In addition, Pantas mentioned, that national assets such as the DPR Office, Kemayoran, and the Gelora Bung Karno complex in Senayan should be maintained.
"The intention is to maintain the value of these assets so that they can be utilized," he said. Pantas also mentioned that the assets are one of the main focus of the Jakarta Specialty Bill drafting.
Talks about forming a Regional Council to supervise and manage the spatial planning of Greater Jakarta, Puncak, and Cianjur were also present in the drafting. "The Vice President is appointed as the head of the Regional Council in the bill for a stronger authority," Pantas said.
He believed that spatial planning would have a positive contribution to the region, including reducing traffic congestion, resolving the lack of green open areas, and solving the present flooding issue.
Additionally, it could also slow down the population growth in Jakarta. "To transfer the central government apparatus to Nusantara [the new state capital] will have a more or less an impact on reducing Jakarta's population so it could become a more appropriate living space," he said. Pantas also claimed that the worsening air pollution in Jakarta could be attributed to the number of people currently residing in the province.
