BMKG Warns of Wildfire Potential, Heavy Rain, and Strong Winds in Indonesia Today

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A number of regions in Indonesia will experience potential wildfire, heavy rain, and strong winds today on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, according to the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) early warning system.
The wildfire potential is recorded in Jambi, South Sumatra, East Java, NTT, Central Kalimantan, and South Kalimantan. BMKG urged residents of said regions to be vigilant of the effects of wildfire and to avoid burning lands for any reason.
BMKG also announced its warning for heavy rain with lightning in Aceh, North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Riau, Riau Islands, West Java, Jakarta, East Java, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, North Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, North Maluku, and West Papua.
According to BMKG, a cyclonic circulation is observed in the Sulu Sea, creating an elongated convergence zone from the waters in the north of Kalimantan to the Sulu Sea and from the Sulawesi Sea to the Sulu Sea. Closed circulation, meanwhile, is observed in the waters in the north of West Papua.
An elongated convergence zone is also observed in South Sumatra to Aceh, from the waters in the north of Halmahera to the Pacific Ocean at the east of the Philippines, and from Papua to West Papua. The condition will increase the potential for clouds along the cyclonic circulation or closed circulation and along the convergence zone.
BMKG also warned citizens of strong winds potential in Aceh, South Sumatra, West Java, East Java, NTB, NTT, North Kalimantan, and Papua with more than 45 kilometers per hour velocity.
