TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Sugar is often deemed as the sole responsible culprit for diabetes. However, there are several other types of food and beverages that contribute to the disruption of blood sugar levels in your body. Quoting Times of India, below is the list of foods to avoid for people with diabetes:
1. Prepackaged snacks
One of the main culprits of diabetes is prepackaged snacks with a high level of carbohydrates. Prepackaged snacks from processed flour could rapidly increase blood sugar.
2. Dry Fruits
Dry fruits have a high level of sugar contained in each piece. For example, dry raisins have higher levels of carbohydrates, reaching 115 grams. Diabetic patients are encouraged to pick dry fruits made of low-sugar fruits.
3. Alcoholic beverages
Alcoholic beverages are rich in sugar and carbohydrates which guarantees the rising level of blood sugar in a swift manner.
4. Fruit juices
A moderate amount of fruit juices is good for diabetic patients, however, fruit juices also contain a higher level of concentrated sugar. Drinking excessive amounts of fruit juices will accelerate the rising level of blood sugar.
5. Deep-fried foods
Deep-fried foods are high in calories which could disrupt the blood sugar level since deep-fried foods are slower to digest and accumulate fat in the body.
6. Processed carbohydrates
Processed carbohydrates are low on fiber and could increase the level of blood sugar for diabetes patients. Choose healthier alternatives such as wheat, fruits, and seasonal vegetables.
