TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Sugar is a sweet, easily found material in almost all foods and beverages. There are two kinds of sugar, natural sugar and artificial sugar. Despite its taste, excessive sugar intake could negatively impact your emotions and health.

Citing Health, below are several positive impacts of reducing your sugar consumption:

1. Maintain body weight

For the sake of your long-term health, it is recommended to lower your sugar intake. Low-sugar food and beverages are beneficial to control body weight and reduce fat in your stomach.

2. Maintain blood sugar

Insulin resistance occurs when the pancreas releases excessive insulin hormones to balance the level of sugar in the bloodstream. Thus, excessive sugar consumption could cause the level of insulin to rise, risking prediabetes and type 2 diabetes.

3. Maintain heart vigor

More than 20 percent of the total calories in additional sugar is linked to the level of triglyceride in the blood which is responsible for increasing the risk of heart diseases. Reducing sugar intake will help control the triglyceride level and in turn, maintain the health of your heart.

4. Improve mouth health

The process of breaking down sugar in the mouth could create acid which causes cavities and infected gums. Reducing sugar intake will also reduce the risk of cavities.

5. Improve skin health

Sugar could accelerate sebum production in your skin, causing acne to break out. Additionally, sugar and grilled food could react with the collagen in your skin, reducing its elasticity.

6. Reduce the risk of liver disease

Excessive sugar intake is often linked to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. The liver has a role in dissolving fructose, which could precipitate fat accumulation in the liver, the main cause of the disease.
