TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Acting Governor of Jakarta, Heru Budi Hartono said that he hopes the private sector will implement the work-from-home (WFH) policy during the ASEAN Summit on September, 5-7, 2023. Heru Budi said distance learning and WFH are necessary during the event.
"Because the road in 29 areas will implement contraflow [during ASEAN Summit], it could be uncomfortable for other road users on September, 5, 6, and 7, 2023," he said in Jakarta City Hall on Thursday, August 24, 2023.
Previously, the government has applied the 50% WFH policy for civil servants to reduce air pollution as well as suppress possible traffic congestion during the ASEAN Summit.
On the days of the event, the percentage will increase to 75% for civil servants while schools in the surrounding area of the venue will implement distance learning.
The Jakarta Transportation Office also prepares traffic simulations on 29 roads by executing contraflow to ensure that the road to the venue is smooth sailing for the summit delegations.
Concerning WFH for the private sector, Heru is not able to enforce the policy on companies. "If [the companies] want profit, then go ahead [to work from office], but if they want to sacrifice themselves for Indonesia we will appreciate it," he said.
The head of the Presidential Secretariat has met with several business associations in the Jakarta City Hall. However, there's still no certainty on whether or not the private sector agrees to implement WFH.
