Jokowi Dons Maluku Traditional Attire for State of Nation Address

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo arrived at the Parliament building in Senayan, Central Jakarta, this morning, August 16, dressed in the traditional attire of Tanimbar, Maluku.
For this year’s State of the Nation Address, the President appeared wearing a white long-sleeved shirt and long black pants, combined with a black sinune tenun or traditional woven fabric wrapped around his torso and a black waistband with dark red stripes and gold line details.
He also donned a black feathered headdress called tutuban ulu with somalea and a large golden coin necklace.
At his side was First Lady Iriana Jokowi, who appeared to be wearing a golden kebaya, a traditional blouse.
Meanwhile, Vice President Ma'ruf Amin was seen wearing traditional Betawi attire. His black demang suit was paired with a brightly colored pile cloth.
During this annual plenary session of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR), President Jokowi would talk about the 2024 State Budget Bill. The agenda would be preceded by speeches from MPR Speaker Bambang Soesatyo and the House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Puan Maharani. The President would then deliver his State of the Nation Address, highlighting the performance of state institutions over the past year.
