Indonesian Airline Batik Air Will Open New Route to Chennai Starting in August 11

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta -  The Indonesian airline Batik Air will open a new destination route to Chennai, the capital city of Tamil Nadu, a southern Indian state, starting in mid-August this year, more precisely, on August 11, 2023 .

"Batik Air, a member of Lion Air Group, is proud to announce the opening of a new flight route which is expected to be a bridge for cultural, business and tourism exchanges between the two countries," the Corporate Communications Strategic of Batik Air Danang Mandala Prihantoro said in a statement received in Jakarta, on Sunday, August 6, 2023.

Batik Air will have its maiden flight to Chennai on August 11, 2023, with a flight route from the Kualanamu International Airport in North Sumatra Province, to the Chennai International Airport. 

The Kualanamu International Airport is considered the most efficient transit option in western Indonesia to continue to flight to Chennai. It is located in Deli Serdang District, about 25 kilometers (15 mil) from Medan, the capital of North Sumatra. 

"This direct flight, business people and tourists will feel comfortable and easy on their way to attractive destinations in both countries," Prihantoro said.

To ensure the comfort and safety of passengers heading to Chennai, Batik Air is preparing Airbus 320-200 and Boeing 737-800NG, the statement said.

The planes are equipped with the latest technology and operated by experienced flight crews, thus providing a safe and comfortable flight experience for passengers, it said.

Chennai is the capital of the state of Tamil Nadu in India which has a very distinctive cultural diversity and tradition. It is the fourth largest metropolitan city in India after Mumbai, New Delhi, and Bangalore.

Apart from cultural and culinary treasures, Chennai also has stunning nature, for example Marina Beach, one of the longest beaches in the world. The beach with a length of 12 kilometers has golden sand and clear blue sea water.
