TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A Phinisi boat with tourists on board reportedly sank at the Pink Beach waters in the Komodo National Park area, Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara.

"Yes, one tourist board of Phinisi type sank at Pink Beach waters,”  head of West Manggarai Water and Air Police, I Wayan Merta, confirmed from Kupang on Saturday, July 22.

A video circulating on social media showed an evacuation process of a sinking tourist boat of Phinisi type at the Pink Beach area.

Wayan could yet confirm the number of victims affected by the accident. “The temporary data shows nine tourists fall victim to the sunken ship, and that they are Malaysian tourists going on a vacation,” he said.

The Captain of the ship and the victims were being evacuated to Labuan Bajo dock. Wayan also said that the authorities were examining the sailing permit and the complete manifest of the sunken boat.

“Currently the victims and the captain of the ship and crew are being evacuated to the dock, we will update again later," said Wayan.

West Manggarai search and rescue team and water police were not involved in the evacuation process as it was successfully carried out by fishermen and residents who were close to the accident site.
