Singapore to Hold FIBA Intercontinental Cup 2023; the First in Asia

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Singapore will host the first-ever FIBA Intercontinental Cup in Asia on September 21-24, 2023. The 33rd edition of the event will be held in Singapore Sports Hub in Singapore Indoor Stadium, overseeing six participating basketball clubs battling for the coveted FIBA Intercontinental Cup trophy.
"With six clubs participating for the first time and a fresh format, we are pleased to host this edition in Singapore," stated FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis in a written statement on Friday after completing the draw for the event.
Previously, FIBA entered a three-year partnership with Sport Singapore, Singapore's national sports agency, to bring the basketball championship to Asia for the first time. The event is organized by Kallang Alive Sport Management and supported by partners the Basketball Association of Singapore and Sneakertopia, and sponsored by EVA Air (Official Airline), Pan Pacific Singapore (Official Hotel), Rigorer (Official Apparel), and 100Plus (Official Hydration).
"We are pleased to showcase once again Singapore's ability to host top-class sports events. Having the FIBA Intercontinental Cup on our shores is a testament to Singapore's exceptional event-planning expertise, as well as the opportunity to showcase our city as a travel destination," said Toh Boon Yi, Deputy CEO of Sport Singapore as quoted by Tempo on Friday, July 21.
The FIBA Intercontinental Cup Singapore 2023 will showcase international basketball with six participating groups, namely NBA G League's Team Ignite, the BCLA Winner Sesi Franca, and the BAL winner Al Ahly who will square off in Group A. Meanwhile, Group B consists of the CBA representative Zhejiang Golden Bulls, WASL champion Al Manama, and BCL winner Telekom Baskets Bonn.
Early bird tickets are available to purchase from July 19-25 2023, starting with $10 for youths aged 18 and below while the standard tickets are $30. Meanwhile, the General Sale will start on July 26, 2023, priced at $10 for youths aged 18 and below and $40 for the standard ticket prices. The tickets are only available to purchase online via sportshub.com.sg, hotline channels, and SISTIC-authorized agents.
