TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi invites Australian CEOs to invest in some of Indonesia’s projects in a meeting at Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney, Australia on Tuesday, July 4. He mentioned that Indonesia is the best investment partner in Southeast Asia.
He emphasized some priority sectors with high potential for foreign investors. "Indonesia has a high potential for investment with rich natural resources, demographic bonus, a considerable market, and economic and political stability,” he said.
One of the main priority sectors is the resource-based industry. Jokowi said that Indonesia and Australia could potentially integrate to develop the electric car batteries industry. “Indonesia has already set to produce EV batteries starting next year, 1 million electric cars, and 3,2 million electric motorcycles by 2035.”
President Jokowi also mentioned that Indonesia has extraordinary potential in the green energy sector. Presently, Indonesia has the potential of 434 gigawatts in the sustainable energy sector. “We are currently developing a 30,000 hectares green industrial park,” he revealed.
The president also explained the development of the capital city of Nusantara (IKN) program. The new capital will have a forest and nature-based smart city concept and the development has already begun. Investment plans are open to all in some sectors of the IKN project. “The investment value is up to $25 billion and opens for the education, health, energy, and other sectors,” he explained.
The state head also touched on the education and health sectors. Jokowi stated that the potential for foreign investors in these sectors is very high. "College admittance rises up 20 percent yearly. Up to 2 million Indonesians still choose to medicate abroad. We have great potential in the area," said President Jokowi as quoted from the statement of the Press Bureau of the Presidential Secretariat on Tuesday, July 4.
