TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo will perform the Eid al-Adha prayer in Yogyakarta on Thursday, June 29, 2023, precisely at the Gedung Agung Presidential Palace.
“[I will pray Eid al-Adha] in Yogyakarta,” he said briefly when met at Pasar Palmerah, Central Jakarta, Monday, June 26, 2023.
Meanwhile, the chairman of the Gedhe Kauman Mosque council Azman Latif said the Yogyakarta Palace mosque, which is located less than one kilometer south of Gedung Agung, can be used for Eid prayer on June 29 even though it has been held today.
“It doesn't matter [if Kauman Mosque] holds Eid prayers, first on June 28 in the courtyard of the mosque and the second on June 29 inside the mosque,” Azman said.
The Religious Affairs Ministry announced that Eid al-Adha 1444 Hijri falls on Thursday, June 29, 2023. While Muhammadiyah declared it on Wednesday, June 28, 2023.
The government previously determined two days of Eid joint leave on June 28 and 30, bringing the Eid holidays to three days.
In this year’s Islamic Day of Sacrifice, Jokowi will sacrifice 38 cows which will be distributed to 38 provinces throughout Indonesia. The number increased by four compared to last year, due to the addition of new provinces.
For Jakarta, Jokowi reportedly will sacrifice a 1.2-ton Simmental bull in Istiqlal Great Mosque, Central Jakarta. Presidential Chief of Staff Heru Budi Hartono said the President may sacrifice more than one cow in the capital.
