TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Transportasi Jakarta or Transjakarta president director Welfizon Yuza said there are between 40,000 and 50,000 people working in the Soekarno-Hatta Airport area. So the availability of Transjakarta buses as a mode of transportation to the airport is necessary.
"The focus is actually on the area around the airport," said the Tranjakarta Managing Director when met at Bulungan Gor, South Jakarta, Thursday, June 16.
He said that in principle, Transjakarta serves the public and the airport area—not the residential areas and people living there, and rather being the center of economic activity. Therefore, anyone can board, not just airport workers.
Welfizon explained that the Soekarno-Hatta airport Transjakarta bus did not only target Angkasa Pura II (AP II) employees but people working for other companies as well, such as porters and merchants/sellers. "They are also part of the community who have the right to access public transportation," he said.
He asked to dismiss any notion that the Transjakarta Soekarno-Hatta Airport would serve as an AP II employee bus. This is because those working in the area are not only AP II employees.
"There are many supporting systems, for example, porters around the airport, some with low income. If they have to go home at night, they need to pay high costs for transportation. We have to help," he said.
