TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II (AP II) proposed that Jakarta-owned bus operator Transjakarta open routes to and from Soekarno-Hatta Airport at certain hours in order to serve people working in the international airport.
AP II Director Muhammad Awaluddin said there are around 40,000-50,000 people working in the airport. They work in various agencies such as AP II, airlines, ground handling, government agencies, commercial tenants, and others.
“The workers commute to and from Soekarno-Hatta Airport every day. If there is a TransJakarta bus, it can provide more choices of transportation modes for airport workers,” Awaluddin said in a written statement, Monday, May 29, 2023, as reported by Antara.
The suggestion was conveyed during a meeting with Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi and Jakarta Acting Governor Heru Budi Hartono on the integration of transportation modes at the Airport. The meeting was held on the inspection train en route from Soetta Airport to BNI City Station, Jakarta.
During the meeting, Awaluddin proposed that the Transjakarta bus could operate in the morning from 6:00 to 9:00 a.m. and in the afternoon from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. The special bus stops could later be prepared.
"The Transjakarta bus can later be integrated with public transportation specifically for the Soekarno-Hatta Airport area, such as shuttle buses and skytrains to make it easier for workers at the airport," he said.
Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said the capacity of public transportation to and from the airport will be increased and fares will be set to be more affordable.
“We discussed how to increase capacity [of public transportation to and from Soekarno-Hatta Airport], how to get wider coverage, and how the fares could be more affordable for the community,” the Minister talked of the meeting.
