TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno stated that Coldplay’s four-day concert in Singapore must be regarded as a good opportunity to increase the number of foreign tourists to Batam and Bintan. The ministry is thus working on designing tour packages.
“We have to take anticipative measures, [such as] whether [Indonesian people going to the concert] depart from Batam. So we create a Batam tour package,” Sandiaga said in the Weekly Brief with Sandi Uno monitored online in Jakarta, Monday, June 12, 2023.
That way, he said, tourism opportunities are opened in the cities of Batam and Bintan of the Riau Islands, which is the second gateway for tourist arrivals after Bali.
He also confirmed that the concert promoter has not yet provided a definite answer to his request for one more day show in Jakarta. Coldplay is set to perform in GBK Stadium, Central Jakarta, only on November 15, 2023.
Sandiaga asked the public not to be too disappointed and saddened by what happened. “I think we shouldn't cry over spilled milk. But let’s seek a solution, we can create a tour package [that attracts concertgoers] to stay overnight in Bintan or Batam,” he added.
Coldplay is set for a four-day show in Singapore next year as part of their Music of The Spheres World Tour. The British pop band led by Chris Martin is scheduled to perform at the National Stadium on January 23, 24, 26, and 27, 2024.
