Indonesia Launches Electric Mobility Ecosystem Association to Boost EV Uses

5 June 2023 14:02 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - a number of SOEs and private corporations have officially formed the Electric Mobility Ecosystem Association (AEML), which is aimed to accommodate pioneers of the battery-based electric vehicle industry and supporting ecosystems in the country’s electric mobility ecosystem.

The association’s general chairperson Dannif Danusaputro on Monday said the formation of the group aligns with the public’s growing interest in electric vehicles.

"We believe that with the active role from multiple parties and full support from the government and the community, the electric vehicle ecosystem will soon be able to grow and smoothly develop the energy transition process," Dannif said at the AEML launch event in Jakarta, Monday, June 5.

He also mentioned the importance of developing the ecosystem’s infrastructure alongside the growing adoption of electric vehicles. “With safety and sense of ease as our main focus, we will be able to push for the public’s adoption,” he explained.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) and AEML monitoring board head Arsjad Rasjid lauded the formation of the association which consists of 14 members that represent the battery industry, electric vehicle manufacturing, and battery swap and charging infrastructure.

"AEML as an inclusive forum for businesses in the electric vehicle industry is much appreciated,” said the Kadin chairperson.

With the association in existence, Arsjad expressed hope that the goal of 1 million uses of electric cars and 3 million electric motorcycles by 2035 can be achieved.
