AP II Airports Log Highest Traffic Since the Pandemic

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned airport operator Angkasa Pura II announced that the airline passenger traffic across AP II airports reached a total of 7,14 million people in May, which is the highest since the coronavirus pandemic hit.
“This is the highest [passenger count] in three years since the Covid-19 pandemic hit in 2020,” said AP II president director Muhammad Awaluddin on Friday, June 2, 2023.
AP II records show that during May 1 to May 31, 2023, all AP II airports served 53,486 flights and 58.88 million tons of cargo transportation volume.
Passengers in May 2023 reached 7.14 million people in the same period which is a 14 percent increase compared to April 2023 of 6.27 million people.
"When compared to May 2022, there was a greater increase of 18 percent," Awaluddin said.
Awaluddin said that passenger traffic in May 2023 is reaching closer to the normal statistics prior to the pandemic. As a comparison, in 2019 the passenger traffic at AP II airports was around 90.77 million people, making the average passenger per month around 7.56 million people.
"May 2023 is by far the busiest month for AP II since the pandemic hit in 2020. The number of passengers in May was the highest since the pandemic, and almost matched the 2019 conditions before the pandemic," Awaluddin elaborated.
