TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian national soccer team coach Shin Tae-yong summoned 26 players to play at the FIFA Matchday in June 2023. Indonesia will compete against Palestine on June 14 at Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium, Surabaya, and Argentina on June 19, 2023, at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, Jakarta.
Twenty-six players will gather at the training center starting on June 5. Some of the athletes work abroad, such as Asnawi Mangkualam (Jeongnam Dragons), Elkan Baggott (Cheltenham Town FC), Jordi Amat (Johor Darul Ta'zim), Shayne Pattynama (Viking FK), Saddil Ramdani (Sabah FC).
Two players who have just undergone the naturalization process; Ivar Jenner (Jong Utrecht) and Rafael Struick (ADO Den Haag), are also on the list.
There are four players from Persib Bandung, and three players each from PSM Makassar and Persikabo soccer teams.
For PSM Makassar keeper, Reza Arya, this was the first time in his professional career to play at the national team. “Alhamdulillah, I'm so thrilled and thankful that I get a call from the national team. I will definitely work hard to get a place on Indonesia national team,” he said.
Shin Tae-yong also summoned several U-22 national team members who won the Sea Games 2023, namely Ernando Ari, Rizki Ridho, Pratama Arhan, Witan Sulaeman, and Marselino Ferdinan.
Indonesia will face Palestine, which is ranked 98th in FIFA, and the world's number one soccer team - that is also the 2022 World Cup champion, Argentina. Indonesia is still in 149th position, but if the team reaches maximum results, its FIFA rank may elevate next month.
