TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Attorney General’s Office (AGO) on Wednesday denies that the suspect-naming of Communication and Informatics Minister Johnny G. Plate is politically-motivated and asserts that it is purely a law enforcement matter.
“The suspect naming and imprisonment of JGP [Johnny G. Plate] is purely a legal matter and is not politically motivated,” said the AGO spokesperson Ketut Sumedana on Wednesday, May 17.
According to Ketut, the AGO is required to look over national strategic projects and the base nationwide transceiver station 4G project, which is linked to the corruption case incriminating Minister Johhny.
Johnny G. Plate has been named a suspect on May 17 over an alleged violation of Article 2 (1) and Article 3 j Article 18 of Law No 20/2001 overseeing the eradication of corruption crimes.
Ketut said the state losses are estimated to reach Rp8.32 trillion because of the corruption from 2020 to 2023. The estimated state loss was determined based on the calculation of the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP).
Johnny’s Interrogation Lasted Two Hours
Plate initially underwent an examination for two hours at the Attorney General's Office on Wednesday, May 17, as a witness. According to Ketut, Plate was faced to answer 33 questions to explore his involvement as a State Minister and budget user in the major BTS tower construction project.
After undergoing examination, Plate was immediately detained at the AGO's Branch Salemba Detention Center for the first 20 days.
