TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia has strengthened its position in Southeast Asian esports after winning two consecutive golds in PUBG Mobile—one at last year's SEA Games in Vietnam and another this year in Cambodia.

"Indonesia is very proud of the two national teams' achievements. This is the second gold medal contributed by the PUBG Mobile team to Indonesia," said Agung Chaniago, PUBG Mobile Indonesia country manager, on Monday.

The achievement proves the dedication, passion, and talent of the PUBG Mobile Indonesia community, he added.

Indonesia managed to dominate the team event, which was held over four days from May 11 to 14, 2023, at Olympia Mall, Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

Ninety-five professional players and 19 national teams from 10 Southeast Asian countries competed in the team event.

Indonesia's Garuda Squad sent INA 1 and INA 2 national teams consisting of five members each for the competition.

The INA 2 national team, comprised of Haikal “Yummy” Aditya, Alan Raynold “Satar” Kumaseh, Septiadi “Lapar” Ardiansyah, Muhammad “Boycil” Afriza, and Teuku Muhammad “Ponbit” Kausar, managed to claim the first position by beating other teams.

Meanwhile, the INA 1 national team, consisting of Juventino Ryan “Rosemary” Jeremy Rolos, Sharfan “Potato” Shahman, Eksarahman “RedFace” Jayanto, Nizar Lugatio “Microboy” Pratama, and Febrianto Genta “Svafvel” Perkasa, took 5th place out of the total 19 teams.

At the Vietnam SEA Games last year, Indonesia's PUBG Mobile team won one gold medal in the team event and one silver in the individual event.

This year’s achievement strengthened Indonesia's position as the only Southeast Asian country to have won consecutive gold medals in the PUBG Mobile team event.

On April 16 this year, the Indonesian team Alter Ego Ares won the official 2023 PUBG Mobile Super League Southeast Asia Spring (2023 PMSL SEA Spring) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Indonesia will compete again at the 2023 PUBG Mobile World Invitational (2023 PMWI), with a total prize of Rp44.6 billion (around US$3 million), in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from July 11 to 16.
