TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Secretary of the Indonesian Flight Navigation Service Institution (LPPNPI) or AirNav Indonesia, Rosedi, confirmed that a plane skidded off at Maleo airport, Morowali of Central Sulawesi, at 14:59 Central Indonesian Time (WITA), Thursday, May 11, 2023. It was Hawker 900 XP with flight registration of PK-LRU belonging to PT Angkasa Super Services.
Rosedi explained that the plane from Jakarta’s Halim Perdanakusuma (HLP) to Morowali Airport (MOH) had an accident during the landing. “It skids off the runway or over the runway,” he said in a written statement received in Jakarta, Thursday evening, May 11, 2023.
At the time of the incident, said Rosedi, PKP-PK and aviation security (Avsec) officers rushed to the site and immediately evacuated the crew and passengers. The plane slipped 200 meters from the end of runway 05.
“Until this statement is issued on Thursday (May 11) at 22:00 WIB, flight operations and flight navigation services at Morowali Airport are still temporarily closed,” he added. The National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) was also investigating the incident.
The Central Sulawesi Regional Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Djoko Wienartono in Palu revealed that the plane carried four crew members and four Chinese foreign passengers.
The four passengers planned to head to a nickel smelting company in North Morowali, PT Gunbuster Nickel Industri (PT GNI). They were then escorted to the firm. “Meanwhile, the four crew members were taken to Puskesmas (community health center) for observation,” Rosedi said.
