TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Low-cost carrier Lion Air explained the reasons why flight number JT-306 with the route of Kualanamu International Airport in North Sumatra (KNO) to Sultan Iskandar Muda International Airport (BTJ) in Aceh returned to the runway after taking off on Tuesday, May 2.
“Flight JT-306 returned to the airport of origin (return to base or RTB) due to unfavorable wind conditions at Sultan Iskandar Muda Airport,” said Corporate Communications Strategic of Lion Air, Danang Mandala Prihantoro, in a written statement, Tuesday.
Danang explained that the Boeing 737-900ER aircraft registered PK-LGJ carrying 7 crew and 202 passengers departed at 12:30 WIB (western Indonesian time) and was scheduled to arrive in Aceh at 13:40 WIB.
“The pilot strictly complies with the permitted wind speed limits in flight to ensure the safety and stability of the aircraft during flight and landing,” he said.
According to him, the decision to return to the base due to the poor weather was the right decision as a priority for aviation safety.
After the plane arrived at Kualanamu International Airport at 16:00 WIB, passengers were informed about the next situation and needed to wait at the airport.
Lion Air flight JT-306 finally took off from Kualanamu International Airport on the same day at 17:04 WIB as the weather and wind speed were declared safe and landed at Sultan Iskandar Muda International Airport in Aceh at 18:00 WIB.
