TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Youth and Sports Minister Dito Ariotedjo officially inaugurated the Indonesian contingent for the 2023 SEA Games Cambodia at the Youth and Sports Ministry’s Office on Tuesday, May 2. In total, there are 599 athletes, 230 officials, and 55 headquarter team consisting of doctors, paramedics, masseuse recovery team.
The inauguration event was attended by the National Olympic Committee (NOC) chairman Raja Sapta Oktohari, Chef de Mission Lexyndo Hakim, representatives of the Indonesian Sports Committee (KONI), and the review team. Several public figures were also present, such as Mikha Tambayong, Marshel Widianto, and Dustin Tiffani.
“We (the ministry) together with NOC, KONI, all management of sports organizations, as well as the Indonesian people, support the Indonesian contingent in the 2023 SEA Games,” he said while delivering a speech. “By saying bismillahirohmanirahim, I inaugurate the Indonesian team going to the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia.”
Minister Dito said that the Indonesian team had gone through training camps (pelatnas) for quite a long time as mandated in Presidential Regulation No. 86 concerning the Grand Design of National Sports (DBON).
The Indonesian contingent selected to go to Cambodia, he said, had passed the selection and consideration based on the track record of achievements and sports analysis conducted by the NOC and the analyst team.
Regarding the target, Dito hoped that the Indonesian contingent can bring home 60 gold medals. “As I said, God willing, we will miss our target, as it is higher than the prediction.”
“We have increased [the target] because there are six sports that should have been carried out individually in Hanoi but replaced with team sports,” Dito said.
Dito Ariotedjo, the youngest minister in the Indonesian Onward Cabinet, said the results of the 2023 SEA Games will be a benchmark for the struggle towards the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics. The 2023 Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia will take place from May 5-17.
