Traffic Accidents Drop 34% during 2023 Eid Homecoming: Jasa Raharja

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Traffic accidents occurring during this year’s Eid homecoming or mudik season have declined compared to the last year’s season. This is evident from the data on the compensation paid by the state-owned insurance company PT Jasa Raharja.
From April 18 to 25 (D-5 to D+2 of Eid al-Fitr), the police recorded 1,915 accidents, down by 34.41 percent from the same period in the previous year which reached 2,920 incidents.
The number of accident victims amounted to 3,553, down by 36.9 percent from the 2022 Eid period of 5,639 people.
From the victim data, Jasa Raharja paid compensation for 316 deaths, a decrease of 62.5 percent from the previous year which reached 823 deaths. As for injured victims, Jasa Raharja made the compensation payment to 2,983 people, down 32.34 percent from the previous year of 3,759 people.
Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy stated that the number of road accidents during the 2023 Eid fell by 39 percent compared to last year's period.
Muhadjir Effendy also reported that the decrease in the number of accidents was in line with the decrease in the number of deaths caused by accidents during the 2023 Eid homecoming. The figure, he added had plummeted by 72 percent.
