TEMPO.CO, Cirebon - A number of Eid homecoming travelers choose to use alternative roads to return back to the city. The peak or return traffic at toll roads was predicted to occur today, April 25, and tomorrow or Wednesday, April 26.

Based on the monitoring at Pantura (north coast) route in Cirebon on Tuesday, April 25, the homecoming travelers who were supposed to pass the Pegambiran fly-over opted to turn right and entered the Jalan Diponegoro lane, Cirebon. The authorities have installed traffic signs and directions for road users that aim to continue to the main Pantura lane or turn to alternative roads through Cirebon-Kapetakan-Karangampel-Jatibarang and enter the main Pantura lane again.

Zulkarnaen, a traveler from Brebes, said he knows the alternative routes very well. “It’s quieter. Well, the main Pantura is definitely crowded.” Especially when the day is still bright, Zulakrnaen and his wife chose to go through central Pantura which is an alternative route for home comers. “But I do not dare to go that way at night, cause it’s dark,” he added.

Cirebon Traffic Police Chief, AKP Triyono, explained that the authorities facilitate the homecoming travelers with the option to use the main Pantura road or alternative routes. “We’ve also installed the traffic signs,” said the police.

Meanwhile, from Cipali Toll, the toll road operator predicted that the peak of returning traffic of Eid homecoming would occur on D+3 and D+4 of Eid or on April 25-26. “We predicted there will be 118,000 vehicles passing through the Cipali toll on April 25,” said Sri Mulyo, Head of the Astra Operations Division, Cipali toll road, Tuesday, April 25, 2023.

Meanwhile, it was recorded that 116,00 vehicles passed the Cipali toll on Monday, April 24. The number decreased by one percent from the predicted number of 117,000 vehicles.

“Currently, the one-way traffic policy executed by Traffic Police is still ongoing,” said Mulyo. The traffic engineering imposed on April 24 at 14:45 will be adjusted to the updated condition of the roads and the direction from the authorities.
