TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) confirmed that it has arrested 25 people during a sting operation related to the corruption case within the Railways Directorate (DJKA) of Central Java.
“So far, the KPK team has managed to secure 25 people involved in this case. The arrests are made in Semarang, Jakarta, West Java, and Surabaya,” said KPK spokesman Ali Fikri in a written statement on Wednesday, April 12.
Ali said the arrested people came from various elements; state and private officials. “They consist of commitment-making officials and other related officials, as well as private parties,” he outlined.
The case, according to Ali, is an alleged bribe committed by private parties toward state administrators related to the construction of railroad tracks.
“The alleged corruption is related to the construction of the Trans Sulawesi railway line and other projects to improve railroad crossings at the Transportation Ministry's DJKA,” Ali explained.
Ali also said that the KPK had secured pieces of evidence in the form of money. “The initial evidence includes billions of rupiah and also thousands of US dollars in cash,” he reported.
