TEMPO.CO, JakartaClass I immigration office of Denpasar, Bali, deported two tourists from Poland for violating immigration regulations and customs rules during the Nyepi celebration, or Day of Silence.

The two tourists were reported to have done activities outside during Nyepi Day on March 22. "The persons knew that Bali was commemorating Nyepi and understood the regulations during the Nyepi Day. We’re still investigating further if there are other violations," said Bali immigration official Anak Agung Bagus Narayana on Friday, March 24.

The two Polish nationals were found by Bali traditional security forces, pecalang, of Sukawati Custom Village, raised a tent on a gazebo at Purnama Beach in Gianyar, on Wednesday, March 22. Both seemed to argue with the pecalang and refused to enter a house or lodging. They reasoned that did not have money to pay for a lodge as they had a limited budget for their vacation in Bali.

The head and pecalang of Sukawati Custom Village then reported the two foreigners to the Sukawati Sector Police. The police picked them up and detained them at the Sukawati Police Office and handed them over to Denpasar Immigration on Thursday, March 24, for questioning.

Denpasar Immigration charged the Poland nationals with Article 75 paragraph 1 of Law No. 6/ 2011 on Immigration. The article stipulates that Immigration officials can take action against foreigners who carry out dangerous activities or are reasonably suspected of endangering security and public order, as well as violating statutory regulations.

"So, (the two foreigners) can be subject to immigration administrative measures, one of which is deportation," said a Denpasar Immigration official.

The two foreigners were a man named Karol Grabinski and a woman named Barbara Karina Walczak. The two of them were forcibly returned to Poland from Soekarno Hatta International Airport, Tangerang, Banten, on Saturday, March 25.

Based on data from the immigration office, the two foreign nationals came to Indonesia with visas on arrival and their residence permits are valid until 29 March 2023.
