Natuna Landslide Disaster Death Toll Rises to 46, Others Remain Missing

13 March 2023 13:48 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The death toll from the landslide disaster in Natuna again increased to 46 people. A total of 45 victims have been identified, while 1 victim is still unidentified.

"A total of 46 people perished," said the spokesperson for the emergency response of the Natuna Regency Government, Patli Muhamad, on Sunday, March 12.

He explained that there are still 8 people reported missing while 4 victims are being treated intensively across three hospitals after sustaining serious injuries.

Patli said that based on data collected until March 12, 2023, there were 2,240 people who had fled. They are scattered in 6 points of evacuation locations spread across the Natuna Islands.

He said the landslide left 100 houses damaged and cut the electricity to the region. A 1-kilometer-long road is also impassable because it is blocked by landslide material.

The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) stated that the joint team found 10 new victims last Sunday, adding to a total of 46 deaths caused by the major landslide.
