Lake Toba to Host F1 Powerboat; Here 7 Destinations in Its Surrounding

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Lake Toba in North Sumatra will host an international sports event F1 Powerboat organized by Union Internationale Motonautique and sponsored by H20. 

The international motorboat racing will be held on February 24-26. The event will be a chance for Lake Toba as Indonesia'a super-priority destination to promote tourism in the region.

There are also many other destinations surrounding Lake Toba that will attract around 25,000 tourists; both domestic and international, that will possibly attend the F1 Powerboat Lake Toba. Here is the list of tourist destinations surrounding Lake Toba, according to Indonesia Travel:

1. Desa Paropo (Paropo Tourism Village)

In this tourist village, visitors can find the best spot to enjoy the beauty of the lake and the hills surrounding the lake. Many tourists even raise tents and camp in the area.

2. Air Terjun Situmurun (Situmurun Waterfall)

Situmurun Waterfall is located close to Lake Toba, precisely at Situmurun Village in Toba Samosir Regency. This waterfall is unique as the water does not flow into a river or creek, but goes straight to Lake Toba.

Besides, it has seven levels with a total height of 70 meters. Visitors can take pictures or play in the water but must be careful because the flow of the water is quite swift.

3. Lembah Bakkara (Bakkara Valley)

This valley is believed to be the birthplace of the Batak King, Sisingamangaraja. The location is on the edge of Lake Toba and flanked by hills with charming views.

Bakkara also has a bathing place left by Sisingamangaraja called Aek Sipangolu. This place is considered sacred by the local community.

4. Air Terjun Efrata (Efrata Waterfall)

The Efrata Waterfall in Sosor Dolok Village, Harian District is not as high as the Situmurun Waterfall, which is only about 20 meters. But you will not regret visiting this place.

This waterfall is flanked by hills and the water that comes from Bukit Barisan is very clear. Apart from enjoying the beauty of the waterfall, tourists can camp around this spot.

5. Bukit Simarjarunjung (Simarjarunjung Hill)

This is the right hill to enjoy the beauty of Lake Toba from a high place. From this point, the water of Lake Toba will appear green or sometimes blue.

In addition, there are many other attractions, such as hot air balloon spots, flying bicycles, hanging dining tables, and many more. There are also tree houses and viewing posts where tourists can see the view of Lake Toba more clearly.

6. Danau Sidihoni (Lake Sidihoni)

This lake is unique as it lies on Samosir Island which is located in the center of Lake Toba. So this is a lake that is located on a lake.

The water is still clear so that the surrounding scenery can be reflected on the surface. Here, tourists can enjoy the natural beauty of the lake and the pine trees around it. Tourists are not advised to swim here because it is very deep, but they can choose to camp around the lake.

7. Bukit Siadtaratas (Siadtaratas Hill)

Similar to Simarjarunjung Hill, this hill is a spot to view Lake Toba from above. Here, tourists can do various activities, from simply enjoying the beauty of Lake Toba to swimming, canoeing, hiking, or diving. If you like camping, this hill can be a suitable spot.
