10 Low Sugar Fruits for People with Diabetes

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Not every fruit is consumable for people who suffer from diabetes as they are limited to consuming fruits that have a low sugar level. From the entirety of the fruit kingdom, the following are fruits that contain low sugar content.

1. Lemons

Lemon contains high vitamin C content with a renowned sour taste. According to fdc.nal.usda.gov, there are only about 2.1 grams of sugar in this fruit which makes it very suitable for consumption by people with diabetes.

2. Raspberries

This fruit only contains 5 grams of sugar. Not only have low sugar content, but raspberries also contain heaps of fiber which helps with the sensation of being full.

3. Strawberries

This fruit is famous for its sweet and acidic taste notes. One cup of pure strawberries can contain around 7 grams of sugar and more than 100 percent of the daily recommended intake of vitamin C.

4. Blackberry

Blackberries only have 7 grams of sugar per cup and contain antioxidants and fiber that are considerably high.

5. Kiwis

Citing Healthline, kiwi has high vitamin C content and only contains about 6.7 grams of sugar. The sugar content in kiwi is low and safe for consumption by diabetics.

6. Guava

Each guava fruit contains 5 grams of sugar and about 3 grams of fiber. This fruit is also fiber-induced. As a comparison, its fiber is more than that obtained from a portion of brown rice or a slice of wheat bread.

7. Avocado

Naturally, avocados are declared as fruits that have low sugar content. One raw avocado has only about 1.33 grams of sugar. This fruit is also suitable for someone on a diet routine. However, avocados have high calories, so you need to limit your consumption and don't make it a routine habit.

8. Cantaloupe

According to WebMD, one cantaloupe has a sugar content of 5 grams and 23 calories and also contains high levels of vitamin A which is very important for the longevity of the intestines and supports the immune system.

9. Papaya

Half of a small papaya fruit contains 6 grams of sugar. This well-known tropical fruit can help the digestive system.

10. Watermelon

Watermelon has a sugar content of 9.42 grams and is also a low-carb fruit
