TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Acting Governor of Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono stated that the provincial government would seriously deal with cases of atypical progressive acute kidney injury or GGAPA. The city health agency had been instructed to handle and look for the root cause of the disease which has been reported again in the capital.
“We are serious about dealing with it. This morning I spoke with the Health Agency to address it and find its cause. We are serious about it,” Heru Budi told reporters after attending the Jakarta Regional Legislative Council or DPRD Plenary Meeting on Monday, February 6, 2023.
Heru also coordinated with the Ministry of Health. “On whether the cause is the same as before. There are several drugs [potential to be the cause] but I can't name them yet. We will check these two,” he said.
Previously, the Health Ministry revealed the findings of two new cases of acute kidney failure among children in the capital city in early 2023. The ministry’s spokesperson M. Syahril explained that the two were known to have consumed syrup drugs.
“Additional cases were recorded this year; one confirmed case and one suspected case,” said Syahril in his statement on Monday, February 6, 2023.
He mentioned that one confirmed case was a 1-year-old child who was given fever medication dubbed praxion and died. The other case that is still under suspicion occurred in a 7-year-old child.
Based on the case findings, the Health Ministry would issue a warning letter to all health agencies, healthcare facilities, and health professional organizations to be aware of the clinical signs of the disease and the use of liquid drugs.
The Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) also issued an order to temporarily stop the production and distribution of drugs consumed by patients with acute kidney injury until the investigation is complete.
