Sandiaga Uno Aims to Attract Tourists from Sports Tourism

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia will host several international sporting events in 2023 which the Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno considers ‘sports tourism’ that aims to attract 7.4 million international visitors in 2023.
“This year we aim to attract 7.4 million tourists. One of the strategies is by hosting international or world-class events,” said Minister Uno on January 25.
The F1 powerboat or F1 H20 World Series at Lake Toba in North Sumatra is scheduled to be held at the end of February.
“This has surely been prepared and hopefully everything will go as planned and attract 25,000 tourists and boost the Lake Toba local economy,” said he explained.
Another international event in Indonesia will be the FIBA World Cup 2023 which will be participated by 8 countries and the FIFA U20 World Cup which is set to be hosted in a number of cities.
Bali is also set to be the home for the ANOC World Beach Games slated for August this year, which will invite 205 countries in the world that is hoped to accelerate the recovery of the tourism and creative economy sector. Minister Sandiaga Uno is aiming to generate US$5.9 billion in total and US$ 500 million exclusively from sports tourism.
