TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Central Java Police Traffic Directory is currently trialing the electronic traffic law enforcement (ETLE) or electronic ticketing system that utilizes drones equipped with cameras to enforce traffic laws at the exit route of the Tingkir Toll.
According to the Central Java traffic directory unit head, police inspector Doohan Octa Prasetya, the ETLE drones were chosen to accompany static and mobile ETLE systems that have been implemented across streets overseen by the police headquarters.
They also plan to expand their drones to 35 units to cover the area.
“Drone ETLEs are able to cover a broader area of violations, especially in locations where traffic is highly congested,” Doohan wrote on the National Police NTMC website on Monday, January 16.
The Central Java Police is currently working alongside the Indonesian Drone Association in operating the drone fleet. There are currently three officers in the local police headquarters who are certified drone pilots.
“This will be expanded to the entire Central Java Police force,” he said.
