Komodo Park Pricey Entrance Fee Dropped Due to International Scrutiny, Says Minister

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno in a press briefing on Monday revealed the reason why the government canceled its plan to impose a high entrance fee for tourists who visit Komodo Island. According to him, widespread international exposure was why they dropped the plan to charge tourists Rp3.75 million to enter the island.
“The conservation of the National Komodo Park grabbed the world’s attention,” said Uno at the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry headquarters on December 19.
Despite reinstating the initial entry fee, he said the government will continue to study the proper pricing policy that coincides with conservationism.
“We do really appreciate the East Nusa Tenggara government’s decision to revoke the Governor’s Regulation No.85/2022, which will be studied in relation to conservationism,” he explained.
The legal basis for determining the current Komodo Park entry fee will still refer to Government Regulation No.12/2014 which sets it at Rp150,000 per visitor.
