French Tourist Goes Missing in Lombok's Gili Trawangan while Swimming to Gili Meno

19 December 2022 23:46 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Mataram - A French tourist identified as Lidye Annie Mauricette, 50 years old, goes missing while swimming from Gili Trawangan to Gili Meno, Lombok Regency. She was reported missing on Sunday afternoon, December 18, 2022.

Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno, and Gili Air are three tourist islands located side by side on the northwest coast of Lombok.

Chief of the Pemenang Sector Police First Inspector Lalu Eka Arya M, reported that at around 13:00 hours central Indonesian time (WITA), the victim told her two daughters who were lying on the beach, north of the Wah Resort Hotel, that she wanted to swim to Gili Meno. At that time, the victim did not wear any swimming equipment.

At around 17:00 hours WITA, the victim's whereabouts were not known. The two daughters then reported the condition to a guide in front of the Wah Resort. The local people of Gili Trawangan’s argument that it was impossible to make it to Gili Meno given the recent weather caused them to panic.

At around 19:00 WITA, the two victims' children reported the incident to the West Nusa Tenggara Regional Police's Vital Object Security Post. The Pemenang Police, Pemenang Port, the Indonesian Navy, Basarnas (Search and Rescue Agency), and Regional Water Police Unit then cooperated to conduct a search.

As of Monday, December 19, 2022, the search is still ongoing. The team is still exploring the beaches of Gili Matra (Gili Meno, Gili Trawangan, and Gili Air) which are thought to be the places where the victim may be drowned or disappeared, as well as the coast from Pemenang to Bayan.
