BNPT Discloses Motive behind Suicide Bombing in Bandung Police Station

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) explained the motives behind the suicide bombing at Bandung’s Asatanaanyar Police Station today, December 7, 2022. The agency opined that the police station became the target because the law enforcers often thwarted acts of terrorism.
“Because all this time, the ones who have thwarted their mission are law enforcement officers so the police are on their target list,” said the agency head Comr. Gen. Boy Rafli Amar to reporters, Wednesday, December 7, 2022.
Boy also disclosed that the male bomber is a lone wolf based on the preliminary result of the BNPT's investigation.
However, the authorities are still investigating the terrorist network and exploring parties who helped the perpetrator in carrying out their actions.
The BNPT head also suspected that judging from the modus operandi of the attack, the suicide bombing is related to the Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) or Jemaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD) terrorist network. But, further investigation still needs to be carried out to confirm this.
